Microsoft has hired 8,700 employees in the country for its project 99 infrastructure and IT projects.
The Redmond, Washington-based company said the hiring was part of a broader commitment to hire around 8,500 people in India.
The company also announced its new global IT workforce for 2017, which was announced last month.
Microsoft is now in the process of hiring for an additional 12,000 positions in India and the U.S., the company said.
India is Microsoft’s biggest growth market and Microsoft is also adding around 10,000 people to its global workforce over the next year.
Microsoft also said that its global operations in India are now fully operational, including its new cloud-based cloud platform called Azure.
